Poetry was always Mamadou’s access point to the arts. “As a child, the words in my composition notebook painted the pictures that I saw through my project window. It was the only way I could be a historian in a community misunderstood. The only way of adding internal and external hues, blurring the spectrum between my fantasy and reality, exploitation and invisibility, life and death.” Having a canvas to paint through the brushstrokes of breath soon morphed into his remedy and beacon toward self-discovery. Embracing his imperfections, unveiling the shades to his development as a man.

Now, the 24-year-old Harlem-Malian poet, songwriter, and filmmaker connect with a wide array of audiences due to his captivating, storytelling ability. With an illustrious attention to detail, tone, and cadence, his art amplifies emotional vulnerability and the disparities across the Black diaspora and unveils the dynamic stories from marginalized communities. Currently focusing on the harmony between poetry, songwriting, and filmmaking, Mamadou is poised to become one of his generation’s leading storytellers.
